Waterford Township breaks ground on new community center set to open in 2028 (WXYZ)

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Waterford Township broke ground Wednesday on a new community center that officials and residents are calling a brand-new chapter for the community.

Waterford Township Parks and Recreation Director Allison Swanson said the project is about more than just a building. "This is why today feels so meaningful. We aren't simply building a facility for today. We're building the future of Waterford Township," Swanson said.

The new center will feature a gymnasium, indoor pickleball, table tennis, and fitness classes. Outdoor amenities will include pickleball and basketball courts, a softball field, a courtyard, an amphitheater, outdoor restrooms, and a dog park. The facility will also offer a variety of programs focused on both mental and physical health.
